The S218 is a passive professional sub-bass cabinet and does not contain a built-in amplifier. It must be powered by a suitable external amplifier and electronically crossed over using the correct Martin Audio controller or compatible system processing before use.
The Martin Audio S218 is a dual 18-inch vented sub-bass system from the Blackline series, designed to extend and increase the low-frequency output of larger Martin Audio PA systems. It is built for venues, clubs, event production, rental companies, DJs, live bands, and installed sound systems that need serious bass output from a professional cabinet.
The S218 uses two direct-radiating 18-inch low-frequency drivers, each with a 4-inch high-temperature voice coil. This dual-driver design gives the cabinet strong air movement, deeper bass extension, and the kind of low-frequency weight needed for club systems, live music reinforcement, and larger PA setups.
The cabinet is designed to provide both good mid-bass punch and extended sub-bass output. That makes it useful for systems where kick drums, bass guitar, playback tracks, DJ music, and dancefloor energy need more physical impact than smaller single-driver subwoofers can provide.
Martin Audio designed the S218 for use with large-scale Blackline F12 and F15 systems. It can also be used as the low-frequency section of bi-amped or tri-amped H2 and H3 systems, making it suitable for more advanced PA configurations where tops and subs are processed separately.
The S218 must be electronically crossed over and is intended to be used with the Martin Audio M3 Electronic Controller. The controller provides the correct crossover and system processing required for proper integration with compatible Martin Audio tops and mid-high systems.
The cabinet is made from multi-laminate birch plywood and fitted with substantial handles plus four 4-inch castors for easier deployment. At 87kg, this is a serious professional subwoofer that needs proper transport planning, safe lifting, and a crew that understands large-format PA handling.
